Plastics welders and plastics adhesive bonders

PRACTICAL QUALIFICATION IN WELDING OR BONDING OF PLASTICS

Plastics have become increasingly important in modern technology. They are versatile in their properties and processing options. Their low weight, good chemical stability, and easy processing make plastics alternative materials that are also increasingly used in metal processing companies.

In our various courses in the field of plastic welding or plastic bonding, we offer you the possibility of training in welding and bonding processes for thermoplastics: you learn more about the basics of welding processes and the theory and practice of various welding techniques. In addition, we offer you the option of acquiring the corresponding test certificate according to a recognized standard such as DVS 2212-1 or DVS 2221, e.g. for tank and plant construction, or according to DIN EN 13067 within the scope of the Pressure Equipment Directive, or renewing your certificate by taking a retest.

DVS course for plastics welders in the welding processes

Technical Code DVS 2281

DVS course for plastics welders in the welding processes: heated tool butt welding, heated tool sleeve welding, sleeve welding with an incorporated heating element, hot gas fan welding, hot gas string-bead welding in Qualification Test Group I

Prerequisites

The following prerequisites apply to the participation in the course to become a plastics welder:

a) Proof of fundamental knowledge in the field of plastics processing or

b) Participation in a foundation course about the processing of semi-finished products made of thermoplastics in the welding processes: heated tool butt welding, heated tool sleeve weld-ing, sleeve welding with an incorporated heating element, hot gas welding with torch separate from filler rod, hot gas string-bead welding

c) Proficiency in the course language to such an extent that the teaching can be followed and the theoretical qualification test can be taken.

The prerequisites for the admission to the qualification test are governed by technical code DVS 2212-1.

Technical Code DVS 2282

DVS course for plastics welders in the welding processes hot-gas extrusion welding in Qualification Test Group II

Prerequisites

The following prerequisites apply to the participation in the course to become a plastics welder:

  • Proof of fundamental knowledge in the field of plastics processing or
  • Participation in a foundation course about the processing of semi-finished products made of thermoplastics according to technical code DVS 2280.
  • Proficiency in the course language to such an extent that the teaching can be followed and the theoretical qualification test can be taken.

The prerequisites for the admission to the qualification test are governed by technical code DVS 2212-1.

Regular monitoring according to DVS 2212-1

Approval for the tests

The tests may only be taken by persons whose training and previous work gives the expectation that they have sufficient expert knowledge and skills to pass the test. This is generally the case if they satisfy one of the following conditions:

  1. completed training as a plastics joiner or process mechanic in plastics and rubber, with ex-perience in the welding processes under test.
  2. Several years of experience as a plastics welder, particularly in the welding processes un-der test, plus adequate knowledge of the materials and background knowledge of processes based on the DVS guidelines. This condition is met by attending special training modules adapted to the participant's experience and specialist knowledge.
  3. Technical training (e.g. skilled worker or journeyman in a relevant trade), sufficient experi-ence in the processing of semi-finished thermoplastic products, including of the welding tech-nique under test, and successful completion of the DVS 2281 or DVS 2282 training course as preparation for the plastics welder's qualification test.
  4. Technical training (e.g. skilled worker or journeyman in a relevant trade), and successful completion of:
  • A basic course in the processing of semi-finished thermoplastic products,
  • The relevant preparatory course for the plastics welder's qualification test to DVS 2281 or DVS 2282.
  • Attendance of courses shall be confirmed by certificates, and practical experience by com-pany certificates. The examining authority decides whether a person can take the test. In case of doubt, the examining authority will conduct a qualifying test. The person taking the test must master the test language such that he can following the inspector's instructions, and can take the theoretical and practical tests.

DVS course for plastics adhesive bonders

Technical Code DVS 2291

DVS course for plastics adhesive bonders for pipe Joints between PVC-U, PVC-C and ABS with solvent-based adhesives

Prerequisites

The following prerequisites apply to the participation in the course to become a plastics adhe-sive bonder for pipe joints between PVC-U, PVC-C and ABS with solvent-based adhesives:

3.1.a Proof of fundamental knowledge in the field of plastics processing.

or

3.1.b Participation in a foundation course about the processing of semi-finished products made of thermoplastics.

3.2 Proficiency in the course language to such an extent that the teaching can be followed end the theoretical qualification test can be taken.

The prerequisites for the admission to the qualification test are governed by the DVS 2221 guideline.

Technical Code DVS 2221

Qualification testing of plastics adhesive bonders

Pipe joints between PVC-U, PVC-C and ABS with solvent-based adhesives

Admission to the qualification tests

Only those people whose training and previous activities mean that they are expected to have adequate specialist knowledge and skills in order to pass this qualification test are allowed to take part in the qualification tests. As a rule, this is the case when one of the conditions listed below is fulfilled:

  1. Concluded training as a plastics fitter/shaper or process mechanic for plastics and rubber with experience in the field of adhesive bonding.
  2. Many years of experience in plastics processing with thermoplastics, including joining by means of adhesive bonding.
  3. Technical training as a skilled worker or journeyman in a relevant profession and experience in the processing of semifinished products made of thermoplastics, including joining by means of adhesive bonding.
  4. Successful participation in the preparatory course according to DVS 2291.

The training must be confirmed by certificates and the practical experience by company certificates. The qualification testing agency takes decisions about the admission to the qualification test. In cases of doubt, the qualification testing agency can carry out an admission test. The qualification test participant must be proficient in the qualification test language to such an extent that he can follow the instructions of the qualification tester and can take the theoretical as well as the practical qualification test.
